TLC Cancels ‘Kate Plus 8’

All the warning signs were there: ratings have been increasingly bad for TLC’s once-very popular show “Kate Plus 8” and, just recently, the network failed to include it in the official fall schedule. TLC has announced that this is the last season audiences will enjoy watching the life of Kate Gosselin and her 8 children.

In a statement released to E! Online, TLC confirms what voices in the blogosphere have been saying for months – namely, that the show will not live to see another season after the current one.

As expected, the statement doesn’t mention the poor ratings as a reason for the cancelation – in fact, it doesn’t say anything about that.

“TLC has decided not to renew another season of Kate Plus 8. By the end of this season Kate Plus 8 will have hit the 150 episode mark (including Jon & Kate Plus 8); an exceptional milestone,” the statement says.

However, not all is lost: those who weep the cancelation of the series should at least find some consolation in the promise of more specials to come in the future, presumably at public demand.

“TLC hopes to check in with Kate and the family periodically with specials in the future,” the statement says.

On her Twitter page, Mrs. Gosselin claimed to be shocked by the move – especially since it’s not a week ago that she denied rumors of a possible cancelation on the same channel – but took the time to thank the network and fans for helping her stay on air for as long as she did.

As for what the future may hold, Kate hints that she’ll start touring the country again, perhaps write a new book and see to her sentimental life.

She’s choosing to see the bright side in this, she says.

“As is very typical for me, I am choosing to see the positive in this situation and I am excited to consider the many more invigorating opportunities that may come my way!” Kate writes on Twitter.

“I poured my entire self in2 the last6years of ‘Kate Plus 8’ & I can’t wait2have the chance2challenge myself again w future endeavors! In the meanX,I hope 2have more time4motivational speaking,book writing &other fun work opportunities that come my way...And maybe even some dating??!!” Gosselin adds.
