Ricky Naputi lived close to the beach on the gorgeous island of Guam but he hadn’t been out of the house for years. He died in November 2012, weighing almost 900 pounds (408.2 kg), and his struggle to lose at least some of that weight has been documented on a new TLC special.

It aired the other night. A teaser for it is embedded below, but *please note that discretion is recommended when viewing it because of its graphic content.

Doctors tried to get Naputi to lose enough weight to be able to travel to the US for life-saving surgery.

At his heaviest, he was believed to have been 900 pounds (408.2 kg), but they couldn’t tell for sure because he had to lean on furniture for support, which took off some of the weight.

He never managed to get the surgery and died.

His wife, Cheryl, who met him when he was already morbidly obese, told the cameras that living with him was like taking care of an “overgrown baby.” She also said that she simply couldn’t find it in herself to say no to him.
