Coming in 2011

THQ has given a presentation related to its plans for the future, probably aiming to squash some of the rumors saying that the publisher is cash strapped and plans to slash quite a few of the games that are under development. And there are some real gems in that presentation.

For the fiscal year of 2012, which goes from the 1st of April 2011 to the 31st of March 2012, the publisher aims to bring two big releases. On the one hand we have an MMO based on the Warhammer 40,000 universe crated by the Games Workshop, which is set to offer players a chance to become a Space Marine, an Ork on an Eldar while battling in space and in exotic worlds. On the other hand we have a new Red Faction game, which is set to be a follow-up to Red Faction: Guerrilla, which is launching this year. There is also a kids’ game based on Nickelodeon intellectual properties scheduled for that year. Because the games are more than 2 years away, all the dates are, of course, subject to change.

Closer to the present THQ is relying on Volition to deliver the third game in the Saints Row series, which is apparently marking “a new direction.” The presentation also points out that in 2010 or 2011 the company is set to release another action game coming from Relic, which has recently released Dawn of War II and is now working on Tales of Valor for Company of Heroes. Other games coming in the same period are a new racer developed by Juice Games, a “new shooter” from Kaos studios and a new game from Blue Tongue, probably the rumored Marvel Super Hero Squad.

Interestingly the release schedule does not include any new releases from Big Huge Games, which means that THQ is pretty firm in its position to sell or to close down the studio. Another big disappointment is that the Volition release schedule does not include a new Freespace game.
