THQ has canceled the Insane project that’s been in development at Volition Studios, confirming that it has returned the game’s rights to reputed movie director Guillermo Del Toro.

Insane was first revealed to the world at the end of 2010, when THQ promised that it would work together with Guillermo Del Toro to deliver a trilogy of horror games that would turn the industry on its head.

Sadly, due to the THQ’s recent financial problems and despite assurances that Insane was still going to be made, the publisher has now confirmed that the game will no longer appear from its Volition studio.

According to THQ, Insane was still in pre-production, so no staff cuts were actually made following the termination of the project.

The rights to Insane are now owned by Guillermo Del Toro, who can partner up with other developers in order to actually create the game.
