Even though the first video game in the series is not even out the leader of the core division at publisher THQ has said that the company is already preparing the defining elements for Homefront 2, creating the basis for a successful franchise.

Talking to VG247 Danny Bilson, who is the executive vice president of the Core Games division at the publisher, has said, “Franchises, I think, have to use the same brand, but give somebody a really unique experience in that brand.”

Addressing Homefront 2 specifically, he added, “So I like to say that we’ve got to make a fresh experience in a familiar wrapper with sequels. Like, I know what Homefront 2 is. It’s not a repeat of Homefront 1. It doesn’t take place in the same place or anything like that.”

His statements came after he was asked about the end game for the new focus at THQ on new intellectual property, like Homefront and the Costume Quest downloadable title coming from Double Fine and Tim Schafer.

Bilson also suggested that the publisher is trying to make sure that most of the gamers who will pick up the first Homefront will finish the game, in order to have some narrative continuity when the sequel arrives.

Homefront is being developed by Kaos Studios and is set to arrive on the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and the PC at some point in March 2011.

The story is set in 2027 when North Korea has managed not only to take over its southern neighbor but also to conquer Japan and then project its military power over the Pacific in order to invade the United States of America, a state which has become more isolationist than ever because of a growing economic crisis and internal turmoil.

The player will join the anti Korean resistance and will have to fight them using a wast array of weapons and robotic vehicles.
