Canadian carrier TELUS and Research In Motion (RIM) have just released the long-awaited BlackBerry 7.1 OS update for Bold 9790.

Made official in Canada last year, the Bold 9790 is still powered by BlackBerry 7.0 operating system. However, seven months after its official release on the market, the smartphone is eligible for a 7.1 OS upgrade.

TELUS customers who own the BlackBerry Bold 9790 can now download OS 7.1.0.523 software update via BlackBerry Desktop Manager. As always, make sure you have the latest version of RIM’s desktop software prior to downloading and installing this update.

Among the new additions included in this update, one will certainly notice Wi-Fi hotspot functionality, BlackBerry Tag with NFC sharing, but also performance enhancements to various apps (Facebook, Twitter).

SMS & MMS Messaging, BlackBerry Music, Camera, HD Video Playback, and BlackBerry Maps have been enhanced as well. Check it out here.
