TELUS Puts HTC Status on Coming Soon Page

Canadian mobile phone carrier TELUS is getting ready for the launch of a new Android-based mobile phone on the market, namely the HTC Status, which is none other than the HTC ChaCha Facebook phone that went official in February this year.

Previously, the handset was rumored to arrive on shelves at AT&T in the US under the name of HTC Status, but it seems that other wireless carriers will also receive it under the same name.

TELUS has already put the handset on its website with the said coming soon tag attached to it, but did not offer info on when it would become available for purchase, nor on the price tag it might feature.

The HTC Status (ChaCha) is one of the two devices that HTC unveiled to the world with dedicated Facebook buttons, which provide users with fast access to various features that connect with the social networking site.

The button was designed to offer users the possibility to easily share photos, videos or links with their friends or family on Facebook, or to easily update statuses on the social media destination.

Share instantly from almost anywhere on your phone with the Facebook share button
- Update your status from your home screen.
- Share what you’re listening to, including the album art, right from the music player.
- Capture and upload a photo instantly while in camera mode.
- Press and hold the Facebook share button to check-in places.
- Post what you’re reading while browsing online
Connect and respond instantly with the Facebook Chat widget
Create a Wi-Fi hotspot to share web access with multiple devices
Video chat with friends and family
Access videos and games on the web with Adobe Flash

The mobile phone comes with a smaller touchscreen display on the front, complemented by a QWERTY keyboard, and with an 800MHz application processor inside.

It also offers 3G connectivity, WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities, microSD memory card slot for expanding the available storage space, and a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for HD video recording.

Powered by Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, with the HTC Sense UI on top, the new device also offers support for various mobile services, and for applications and games available through Google's official app storefront, the Android Market.
