Canadian carrier TELUS is one of the first to confirm the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for one of its Android smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy S II X.

According to TELUS, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be available for Samsung Galaxy S II X in 2012.

Although the carrier did not disclose any details concerning the exact launch date of the update, there’s a high chance that TELUS will be able to deliver it in Q1 2012.

TELUS’ announcement seems to be a marketing move meant to boost the Galaxy S II X sales. However, it remains to be seen how many customers will be tempted to purchase the first branded Android smartphone confirmed for an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade.

Samsung announced a month ago plans to deploy the latest Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade to its Galaxy family of smartphones, but no specific details have been given regarding which models will receive the update.
