Canadian wireless carrier TELUS has confirmed officially that its Android 2.1-based HTC Desire would get an update to Android 2.2 Froyo in October.

Just as previous rumors on the matter suggested, the mobile phone carrier is readying the release of a firmware upgrade for the high-end device, and should start delivering it in a matter of weeks.

To put all rumors to a rest, the wireless carrier made the announcement via its website, on HTC Desire's purchase web page.

Here's what it has to say on the matter: HTC Desire upgrade to Android 2.2 coming in October

- Portable Wi-Fi hotspot capability - Improved browser performance - Apps storage to your memory card

Those who purchased the mobile phone from TELUS have now only a few weeks more to wait for the solution to arrive on their devices.

In case there are some out of the loop, we should note that the HTC Desire started to receive the Android 2.2 Froyo update from its maker last month.

This applied only to the European market at that time, and only to handsets sold unlocked.

Carrier branded devices did not receive the solution at that time, but started to receive it only recently in various European countries, including the UK.

There are a nice range of enhancements set to arrive on Desire as soon as the Android 2.2 Froyo update is delivered to it, including some performance enhancements.

Moreover, the update should bring to the handset the much praised Flash Player 10.1 solution from Adobe, enabling users to access more websites than before, as well as to enjoy more content on their devices.

One thing that remains to be seen is when exactly would TELUS start delivering the solution to HTC Desire units on its airwaves.

The wireless carrier does not offer a specific release date for the update, but some previous rumors on the matter suggested that mid-October would be the lucky time frame.
