News about TELUS cancelling the Android 4.0 ICS update for HTC Desire HD disappointed lots of users. Initially slated for a July 16 release, the Canadian carrier came forward with an official statement explaining who’s to blame for this decision.

TELUS originally stated that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for HTC Desire HD was cancelled “due to poor device performance during testing.”

However, HTC backtracked a few days ago and confirmed that the update for Desire HD is still on track to be released in the following weeks. Unfortunately, we don’t know if HTC’s statement also includes carrier-bounded Desire HD models.

The folks over at MobileSyrup felt the need to clear things up and reached out to HTC Canada in order to find out whether TELUS HTC Desire HD will still receive the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade as previously promised.

Although they have yet to receive an official answer, TELUS took it further and offered more details on the unexpected cancelling of the Android 4.0 ICS for HTC Desire HD.

According to the carrier, “the decision to suspend the software for this device was made by HTC, not TELUS.” There’s more to it as the operator claims that the “the software was not suspended due to its incompatibility with TELUS software or applications.”

We noticed that TELUS is now referring to the recently cancelled upgrade for HTC Desire HD as being “suspended” rather than “cancelled,” which gives us hopes that the Taiwanese handset maker might had changed its mind and will deliver the update in the near future.

In this regard, TELUS also told MobileSyrup that “if HTC should take this upgrade out of a suspended status, TELUS will follow normal process to ensure that the software is released to our customers.” Stay tuned for more info on the subject.
