The TED application for iPad has been updated to version 1.0.2 which adds support for iOS 4.2, the forthcoming software update targeting iPhones, iPod touches, and iPads. The new release adds iOS 4.2 compatibility and improved feedback while viewing fullscreen videos, according to the folks at TED Conferences.

TED is a small nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading through TED.com. The company has an iOS application for iPhone and iPod touch, as well as a separate version complementing the iPad’s big screen.

The app works and feels great on the iPad. The 9.7-inch screen makes it extremely comfortable to access and use in any environment, and features full-screen mode for all videos, as well as the ability to sort them by their upload date, popularity, and tags.

Videos can also be watched offline. New ones are added each week, ensuring that fans have a reason to hold on to the TED icon on their iPhone / iPod touch / iPad home screen.

Since June 2006, TED talks have been offered for free viewing online, under a Creative Commons license, through TED.com. Over 700 talks are available free online as of July 2010. By January 2009 these had been viewed 50 million times.

Reflecting a still growing global audience, the viewing figure stood tall at more than 290 million in July 2010.

The official iTunes App Store description of the TED iOS app goes:
