TED Conferences have announced an update to their exclusive iPad application, TED for iPad. Updated recently to version 1.3, the app now features AirPlay support, meaning that users can stream their favorite talks to the big screen right in their living room.

“TED presents talks from some of the world's most fascinating people: education radicals, tech geniuses, medical mavericks, business gurus and music legends,” say the folks at TED Conferences.

The app they designed for iPad users allows talks to be delivered in high or low resolution formats based on the user’s Internet connection, and lets them curate their own playlist, and save talks for offline viewing.

As with the official TED website, users can sort views by recency or popularity, and they can find a particular talk by using tags, themes, or related links.

Basically, the TED iPad app is just a dedicated interface that eliminates the need to fire up Safari and browse your way to TED.com, and to pinch and zoom trying to adjust your view. TED for iPad really is just for the iPad.

Now, according to an update to the official TED iTunes page, version 1.3 brings “AirPlay support for all talks and playlists.”

Owners of an HD TV can now use the feature to stream content right to their big screen without leaving the couch.

So if you have friends over and you want to show them something interesting from TED, you can now do so without having to pass around your iPad, or have everyone breathing in your ear as you all cuddle around the tablet’s 10-inch screen.

TED for iPad requires (you guessed it) an iPad, and iOS version 3.2 or later. Both the original iPad and the second-generation model handle the app fine, so there’s no requirement on that end.
