Chinese mobile phone maker TCL is reportedly gearing up for the launch of new Android-based devices, including a successor for the Alcatel Idol X smartphone that was unveiled in early 2013.

The upcoming smartphone is expected to be unveiled at the beginning of the next year alongside a smartwatch, though official confirmation on this has yet to emerge.

However, it appears that the company is already teasing these upcoming products, at least this is what a photo that reads “1 + 1 > 2?” and which was published on Chinese website MTKSJ suggests.

The smartphone can be seen on said image next to what appears to be a smartwatch, which strengthens the belief that they will arrive together.

As far as rumor goes, the upcoming smartphone will be called Alcatel Idol X+ and will sport the newly unveiled MediaTek eight-core MT6592 processor inside.

Furthermore, the mobile phone is said to feature a 5-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a full HD resolution, and to arrive on shelves with 2GB of RAM.

The specifications list of the upcoming handset also includes a 13-megapixel camera on the back, with support for full HD video recording.

At the same time, the device will sport 16GB of internal memory and should also pack a microSD memory card slot, along with the usual set of connectivity options. It should also run under one of the latest flavors of Android, most probably 4.4 KitKat.

Info on the aforementioned smartwatch is missing at the moment, but it should be launched as a companion for the smartphone, the same as other similar products arrived on shelves earlier this year.

As UnwiredView notes, we might see TCL / Alcatel pricing this eight-core smartphone lower than competitors do, which should make the device suitable for more users out there.

However, it remains to be seen how much of the above indeed pans out in the end. The official announcement should not be too far, so stay tuned to learn the news.
