TBS has recently released a new firmware update for its DVB-S2 streaming box. Version 2.0 improves the satellite list and can now display up to 154 titles. A new addition is the telnet protocol for remote access to MOI. The credentials for this are “root” for the login box and “tbs” for the password.

VDR support is mentioned on the new features list. This offers a more convenient way to receive and watch encrypted TV channels, because it enables dynamic loading of CAM.

The update can be performed via PC with the help of the RS232 serial cable and TTERMPRO (for Windows) or Minicom (for Linux) software.

Updating through a USB stick is not supported for this version.

An easier method implies a formatted microSD card and the content of the downloaded archive, named “tbs-moi-dvb-s2-streaming-box-2900-firmware_v2.0.zip.” Copy the “MOI290-fs.bin” to the root folder of the memory card, insert it in the MOI, power on the device, and enter uboot quickly (3 seconds after the streaming box is powered on).

After you manage to do so, enter the following command lines: setenv loadmmcfs 'fatload mmc 0:1 40000000 MOI2900_fs.bin' setenv updatekfs 'nand erase 50c0000;nand write.yaffs 40000000 50c0000 ${filesize}' save re

The process will now start, so wait patiently for a while until it completes.
