The new smartwatch will be a replica of the Carrera

Good news for smartwatch fans as one of the most prestigious Swiss watch makers, TAG Heuer, confirmed it would announce its first smartwatch this week.

Because the company doesn't have the technology to build a chipset or the applications for a smartwatch, it has teamed up with Intel to create a digital version of TAG Heuer's Carrera watch.

“We can’t produce the engine, the chips, the applications, the hardware; nobody can produce it in Switzerland. The hardware and the software will come from Silicon Valley.

“But the watch case, the dial, the design, the idea, the crown, that part of the watch will, of course, be Swiss,” said Jean-Claude Biver, head of LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA , in an interview for Bloomberg.

Carrera is one of the best-selling TAG Heuer watches, which is why the Swiss company wants to give its smartwatch the same look.

It will be launched on the market in autumn

The smartwatch will be released this autumn and will make customers feel like they're wearing a real Carrera. This means that the smartwatch will be bulky and slightly heavier than a usual one.

TAG Heuer's smartwatch will be able to offer similar features as Apple's Watch including the ability to monitor health and GPS, it will also come with some pre-installed apps and services that are specific to the Swiss company.

On top of that, TAG Heuer confirmed it would announce partnerships with other companies that would help create its smartwatch, in the next several months.

We expect the TAG Heuer smartwatch to match Apple's Watch price, which means it will probably be pretty expensive.

The Swiss company will officially unveil the TAG Heuer smartwatch, the digital replica of its best-selling Carrera watch, later today so stay tuned for more updates on this one.
