Samsung has announced a new ultra-slim phone at the CTIA Wireless convention in Las Vegas. T509 is a bar phone measuring only 9.8 mm in thickness. This makes Samsung the first mobile manufacturer to have three distinct slim designs, the other two being clamshell and slider.

The Samsung T509 operates in 850/1800/1900 Mhz frequencies and benefits from GPRS. The phone features a large display capable of showing 262k colors and a VGA camera with zoom that can also be used for video capture. EDGE connectivity ensures that file downloads are made at high speeds. Also, Bluetooth support allows users to exchange multimedia content.

Peter Skaryzynski, vice president of Samsung, declared: "Samsung's industry leadership is based on our ability to deliver innovative phone designs, especially as consumers demand thinner and sleeker devices. When consumers choose one of our slim phones, they are getting an intelligently designed handset that integrates the best features and functionality on the market."

The Samsung T509 is scheduled for release in May 2006 through the mobile carrier T-Mobile.
