Harmonix and MTV Games, the two companies in charge of the future of the Rock Band franchise, have announced that fans of the series will be able to pick up eight new songs from R.E.M. and three new tracks from T. Rex on the Rock Band Music Store, if they game on the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft or the Nintendo Wii.

The two companies are eager to deliver music from artists which will also appear in Rock Band 3, the upcoming title that launches on October 26.

T. Rex is set to contribute their best known song “20th Century Boy” for Rock Band 3 but they are also bringing three tracks to fans this week: “Cosmic Dancer” and “Jeepster” taken from the “Electric Warrior” album from 1971 and “Children of the Revolution”, the single launched one year later that managed to make it to Number 2 in the United States charts.

Dwarfing T. Rex with the size of their contribution are R.E.M., the alternative rock band which is best known for their “Everybody Hurts” song.

That particular hit will is not part of the new pack but fans will be able to get: “Radio Free Europe” taken from the 1981 debut album of the band, called “Murmur”; “Fables of the Reconstruction” will offer the track “Driver 8”;“These Days” and “Superman” is taken from “Lifes Rich Pageant”; “It’s the End of the World As We Know It (and I Feel Fine)” from 1987’s “Document” is one of the highlights of the pack; “Stand” from “Green”; “What’s the Frequency, Kenneth?” from “Monster”, launched in 1994; “Living Well Is the Best Revenge” from “Accelerate”.

Each track will cost players 1.99 dollars, 200 Wii Points or 160 Microsoft Points and those who want all the songs from either band need to look for the “R.E.M. Pack 01” and “T. Rex Pack 01”.
