A T. rex currently residing in Montana was supposed to embark on a cross-country road trip this coming Friday, October 11. Its final destination was the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C.

However, thanks to the government shutdown, the National Museum is now closed. Hence the fact that the T. rex was left with no choice except cancel its travel plans.

Apparently, the dino will make a second attempt to complete this journey in next year's April. Hopefully, this time, it'll successfully reach its destination.

According to Live Science, the fossilized T. rex remains that were supposed to arrive in Washington D.C. on October 16 were unearthed in Montana's Fork Peck reservoir back in 1988.

They measure about 38 feet (11.5 meters) in length, and weigh an impressive 7 tons (14,000 pounds).

The dino was on display at the Museum of the Rockies at Montana State University in Bozeman for about two decades, and is expected to be the centerpiece of an exhibition set to open at the National Museum in 2019.
