Expected to become available this summer

According to the latest news on the Web, wireless carrier T-Mobile is getting ready to announce the release of its second mobile phone powered by Google's Android operating system. As many of you might already know, the handset should be none other than the HTC Magic, which was previously rumored to come to the carrier under the name of myTouch 3G.

For the time being, T-Mobile hasn't confirmed the report, which comes from The Wall Street Journal, though there are great chances that this will happen, especially given the fact that the company already announced that it would release several Android-powered devices in the summer. Basically, the mobile phone operator might not launch the handset next week, the report says, but it will announce its availability.

The HTC Magic (T-Mobile myTouch 3G) comes to the market with the Android Cupcake software (Android 1.5), and features a touchscreen display, coupled with a photo snapper with video recording capabilities, a soft keyboard, stereo Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3G data connection, GPS, a YouTube uploader, as well as a wide range of bug fixes when compared to the previous Android device, the T-Mobile G1 (HTC Dream).

The myTouch 3G is not the only Android handset that T-Mobile expects to be able to release onto its airwaves this summer, and it should attract some users on the carrier's side, especially since other operators have also recently introduced attractive mobile phones, such as the Palm Pre (Sprint) or the iPhone 3G S (AT&T).

We should mention the fact that T-Mobile, although it stated that there would be multiple Android devices, hasn't unveiled the companies that these devices will come from. As such, it is expected to launch another phone under the Google platform, which would come from Samsung, though it might also choose to launch handsets from makers like Motorola or Sony Ericsson, which should have their Android phones on the market before the year's end as well.
