Mobile phone carrier T-Mobile USA is reportedly gearing up for the release of yet another highly appealing smartphone running under Google's Android operating system, namely the LG Optimus 2X.

The smartphone was officially unveiled to the world in December 2010 as the first Android handset in the world to sport a dual-core application processor.

Apparently, it might not be too long before the wireless carrier adds this phone to its offering, so as to have two dual-core Android devices available for its users, in addition to the T-Mobile G-Slate, which is made by LG too.

However, rumor has it that, when launched at T-Mobile USA, the new LG Optimus 2X would sport another name, which would bring it closer to the said tablet PC. The phone would be known as the T-Mobile 'G2X', a recent article on TmoNews reads.

The news site got hold of a leaked shot of an official document, showing that the wireless carrier is indeed planning the launch of the said handset as the 'G2X', though an official announcement on this has yet to be made.

According to them, the info comes from a “very trusted source,” which suggests that it might not be too long before things are proved to be true.

In the meantime, as should have a look at the hardware specifications of the LG Optimus 2X, so that those who might have not met the device before would make an idea of what the wireless carrier has in store for them.

In addition to the dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 chip inside, running at 1GHz, the smartphone also comes with a 4-inch touchscreen that boasts a (WVGA) 800 x 480 pixels resolution, as well as with an 8-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus, LED Flash and HD video recording capabilities.

Moreover, the mobile phone arrives on shelves with 3G capabilities, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity options, and built-in GPS receiver, as well as with support for various Google Mobile Services, and for applications available for download via the Android Market.
