Although T-Mobile USA announced the availability of yet another software update for the Sidekick 4G, owners of the smartphone will have to wait a bit more for the Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade.

Unfortunately, this is just a minor maintenance update that brings several performance and stability improvements, as well as the ability to turn off the optical trackpad.

Several issues have been corrected as well, including the purple line on messaging screen, force close when replying and sending text messages, and the one that made the cursor jump around on the screen in bright light or direct sunlight.

In addition, the update improves the performance of the DriveSmart over Blueooth, as well as the phone's stability.

Only users with T-Mobile Sidekick 4G devices running Android version 2.2.1 baseband version T849UVKJ2 will be able to download and install the new update.
