The long-awaited Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for T-Mobile G2x has finally gone live. In fact, T-Mobile has just started the rollout of the final version of the update, after it inadvertently released earlier versions of Gingerbread a while ago.

Judging by the repeated mistakes that both the carrier and the handset maker have done lately, we’re not even sure if the current update won’t be pulled in a few hours.

Still, given the fact that T-Mobile USA has just published the complete changelog of Android 2.3 Gingerbread for G2x, there’s a high chance that this is indeed the correct version of the update and not some earlier version plagued by bugs and issues.

According to T-Mobile USA, starting today “the Over-The-Air (OTA) update for the G2x to P999-V21y” is available for download to all customers.

Furthermore, “the OTA software will be available until May 14. The update to P999-V21e for the G2x will be available on LG's website until May 7. The software P999-V10y will be available on LG's website starting May 14.”

LG G2x owners who already received a notification that the update is available will only need to select the Update option in order to install it. Keep in mind that the phone will restart once the installation process successfully completes.

It is recommended to have the battery at least 50% charged. We also advise users to make a backup just in case. According to LG, the update has around 30MB in size and it will take between 10 and 30 minutes to update to Gingerbread.

Aside from bringing the phone’s software to version Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the update also includes some improvements and fixes:

- Random reboot/power off fixed; - Device stability improvements; - Wi-Fi Calling improvements; - Boot up fixes.
