Today, mobile phone carrier T-Mobile USA made available for purchase on its airwaves a new Android-based smartphone, the T-Mobile Sidekick 4G, the latest addition to the operator's Sidekick family of devices. The wireless services provider started selling the new smartphone for $99 on a new two-year contract on a qualifying monthly plan, but it seems that even more appealing offers are available for those who would like to acquire a handset.

If they head over to Wirefly's website, they would find the smartphone available for only $79.99 on contract. Both the Black and the Magenta (Pink) flavors of the mobile phone were made available through the retailer, here and here, respectively.

The new device is the very first Android-based Sidekick smartphone to become available for purchase through T-Mobile.

“The T-Mobile Sidekick 4G is a high-performance, Android-powered smartphone running at blazing-fast speeds, in a familiar form,” the company explains.

“The addition of Android to this T-Mobile icon brings the customization of apps and widgets from the Android Market to your finger tips. Innovations like Group Text and Cloud Text, which lets you text on the web from your PC, keep you connected.

“Of course, your favorite social networking apps and Google apps are pre-loaded. When you want to relax, check out YouTube, Samsung Media Hub and T-Mobile TV for entertainment on-the-go.”

The smartphone comes with a 5-row keyboard that slides from beneath the screen, as well as with support for the wireless carrier's 4G network.

In addition to the 3.5" Touch Screen and 5-Row QWERTY Keyboard, the handset comes with a front-facing camera for video calling, Video Chat powered by Qik, T-Mobile TV, Samsung Media Hub, YouTube and more.

The smartphone is powered by Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, and offers fast access to various Google Mobile services, as well as to applications available for download via the Android Market.
