T-Mobile Shadow II Available for Purchase

- But only via eBay, in a prototype version

By: Florin Troaca, Communications News Editor

T-Mobile is indeed preparing a follower for its current Shadow phone, and that is T-Mobile Shadow II. The handset is already manufactured, and it was recently spotted on eBay,
on sale. Well, only a prototype version of it, but that's still about the same thing as the Shadow II that will be officially launched by T-Mo.

Since it's the very first Shadow II to be on sale, the one from eBay is pretty expensive. 499 USD, more exactly, coming with no extra accessories (except for a battery and a charger, of course). As a bonus, you can also get some bugs that might exist in the device's interface. While the $499 price is somehow bad news from those who want to be among the first to own the second generation T-Mobile Shadow, there is some good news too.

Manufactured by HTC, as the first version, Shadow II comes with a very nice slider design and with pretty cool features. The handset runs on the latest Windows Mobile 6.1 and has the following specs: a QVGA (240 x 320 pixels) TFT touchscreen display, Wi-Fi, Music and Video players, Bluetooth, a 2.0 Megapixel camera with video recording, expandable memory, a 260 MHz processor, 256MB of ROM and 128MB of RAM. No word yet about the presence or lack of 3G.

Since the first Shadow comes in a sage and a copper version, we should expect the second one to have at least two color versions, too. The prototype that can be seen now on eBay looks very nice from this point of view, having a shiny black front and a back case that combines red with black for an attractive color effect.

The T-Mobile Shadow II prototype can be bought from this eBay address (found via Engadget Mobile). T-Mobile has not announced yet when the Shadow II officially hits the market, or the price. Anyway, the handset will probably be available before the end of summer, for a price a bit higher than the one of Shadow I (that can currently be bought for $149).
