We reported two days ago that T-Mobile USA planned to release a low-budget Android phone manufactured by Huawei, the Prism.

Today, the carrier came forward with an official communication confirming the previous rumors were correct. Dubbed T-Mobile Prism, the smartphone will be available on the market beginning May 6 via Best Buy.

Starting May 9, the Prism will go live at Walmart, while on May 23 the smartphone is expected to hit shelves at T-Mobile retail stores and online, as well as other authorized retailers.

Customers who want to purchase this entry-level Android smartphone and don’t mind being tied by a long-term contract will be able to grab the Prism for only $19.99 USD (15 EUR) with a new two-year agreement and after a $50 (40 EUR) mail-in rebate.

Those who prefer to acquire the Huawei device on no term price will have to come up with $149.99 (115 EUR) upfront.

According to the carrier, the T-Mobile Prism is aimed at customers looking for their first smartphone, but don’t want to pay too much for it. The phone can be paired with T-Mobile Monthly4G plan or with a two-year T-Mobile Classic or Value plan.

The entry-level smartphone manufactured by Huawei runs Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and packs a low-performance 600 MHz single-core processor.

T-Mobile Prism embeds 512MB of ROM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 2GB memory card included). In addition, the phone has a decent 3.5-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen display and sports a 3.2-megapixel rear camera with digital zoom and video recorder.

Software-wise, the phone provides access to thousands of applications available for download via Google Play, formerly known as Android Market. Last but not least, users will be able to sync multiple email accounts, including Microsoft Exchange, Google calendar and contacts, T-Mobile contacts, and more.
