Just in time for Christmas, T-Mobile has decided to make its customers an unexpected gift, the G2 Android-powered smartphone. One of the best selling devices from T-Mobile's catalog, the G2 is now available for free through the loyalty department.

According to TmoNews, T-Mobile has a time limited offer where it gives the G2 smartphone for free to customers eligible for an upgrade line.

T-Mobile subscribers who wish to take advantage of the offer must be fully qualified to upgrade and say “Contract” to the automated system, so they can be transferred to the appropriate department when they're calling.

The carrier's offer hasn't been advertised at all, so it cannot really be considered a promotion. Furthermore, the offer doesn't require any activation fees and includes free express shipping.

Currently, T-Mobile is retailing the G2 for as low as $199.99 with a new two-year contract, or for $499.99 without a subscription.

The G2 is one of the top tier smartphones retailed by T-Mobile US and is powered by a Qualcomm MSM 7230 800 MHz processor.

The phone runs on Android 2.2 (Froyo) platform and features a 3.7-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors and 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

It packs a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, Swype text input, multi-touch input method, as well as optical trackpad.

The smartpone boasts a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging and video-recording capabilities (720p).

Other key features of the G2 include: Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, HSDPA 14.4 Mbps, HSUPA 2 Mbps, 4 GB of internal memory, 512 MB RAM, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 8GB included), Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, GPS with A-GPS support and 3.5 mm audio jack.
