A S60 5th Edition smartphone

Nokia and T-Mobile announced today the launch of a new mobile phone in the United States, the Nokia 5230 Nuron. The handset comes to the country exclusively via T-Mobile, and is touted as the first handset from Nokia to land at a carrier with the free Ovi Maps included in the package, while also being the first one to include the Ovi Store client that enabled users access all the applications and content available for download for their handsets via the app portal.

But the pre-loaded applications and services are not all that this device comes towards T-Mobile's users with. The Nokia 5230 Nuron also sports a 3.2-inch touchscreen display that boasts a 640 x 360 pixel resolution and support for 16.7 million colors, as well as a 2-megapixel photo snapper on the back with 3x digital zoom and video recording capabilities. The handset is powered by Symbian S60 5th Edition, and sports Flash Lite 3.0.

The specifications list of the smartphone also includes support for Dual band 900/2100 WCDMA and 850/1900 WCDMA, HSDPA and GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 bands, as well as Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity, micro-USB connector, PC synchronization with Nokia Ovi Suite, 3.5 mm stereo headphone jack, FM radio, integrated A-GPS (with the Ovi Maps 3.0 application included), and 70 MB of internal dynamic memory.

Those who will go after the new device will be able to add 16 GB of external memory into the equation courtesy of a microSD memory card slot, and will enjoy up to 7 hours of talk time or up to 438 hours of standby time on GSM courtesy of the handset's BL-5J 1320 mAh Li-Ion battery. All of these are packed inside a device that measures 4.37 x 2.03 x 0.57/0.61 inches and weighs in at 4.05 oz (with stylus).

On the features side, we can count support for Nokia's services and applications, including the aforementioned Ovi Maps and Ovi Store, as well as voice commands, SMS, MMS, Nokia Xpress audio messaging, email (IMAP, POP, SMTP), web browsing (Nokia Mobile Search), media player with support for MP3, MP4, AAC, eAAC+, WMA audio files and MPEG4-S, MPEG4-AVC, WMV9, MPEG4-SP video files, video streaming, support for Nokia Music Store, and others more.
