Mobile phone carrier T-Mobile USA is set to show to the world that its network is capable of delivering the fastest speeds when compared to other airwaves, and is set to offer $1,000 to any iPhone user in the Seattle-area who can beat the Galaxy S 4G smartphone in a speed test.

The competition would run from April 29 through May 1 at various participating T-Mobile retail locations in the Seattle area, and is open to all iPhone users interested in testing their handset's capabilities.

According to the wireless carrier, it challenges iPhone owners to a head-to-head, best-of-three test against the new Galaxy S 4G, with both devices running a third-party application.

“If the download speeds on the iPhone beat those on the Galaxy S 4G two out of three times, T-Mobile will give the iPhone owner $1,000,” the carrier notes.

Moreover, the company announced that, provided that the Galaxy S 4G wins the competition, iPhone owners would be offered the possibility to switch to a T-Mobile smartphone that connects to America’s Largest 4G Network.

Moreover, the carrier announced that users would have the option to trade their phone in participating stores for $300 in value when acquiring one of T-Mobile’s fastest smartphones.

“T-Mobile is so confident in our network that we’re willing to put $1,000 on the line in a public competition against an iconic device such as the iPhone,” said Eric Schlumpf, vice president, Pacific Northwest, T-Mobile USA.

“For months, we’ve heard various advertisements from our competitors claiming to have fast networks. We’ve decided to put our money where our mouth is by putting one outstanding smartphone against another in a test with measurable results.

“In this way, we plan to demonstrate the incredible speeds available on T-Mobile, America’s largest 4G network,” he continued.

Currently, T-Mobile offers 4G services in 167 markets around the United States, and covers over 200 million people nationwide. The Galaxy S 4G smartphone from Samsung is the first handset in the carrier's offering that can deliver download speeds of up to 21 Mbps.
