Wireless services provider T-Mobile USA should make available for purchase on its airwaves its first dual-core smartphone, the T-Mobile G2X, in a matter of weeks, both online and via its stores around the country.

The mobile phone carrier plans on releasing the new device on its airwaves as soon as April 15th through its online portal, roughly a week from now, and aims at putting it on shelves on April 20th. The handset would sport a price tag of $199.99 when ourchased on contract.

The T-Mobile G2X is the carrier's own flavor of the LG Optimus 2X smartphone, which was announced in December last year, and which already landed on shelves in various markets.

The handset comes with a dual-core application processor inside, an Nvidia Tegra 2 chip, and was the very first such mobile phone to be unveiled to the world.

Although T-Mobile went official with the upcoming arrival of the mobile phone, the wireless carrier did not unveil specific info on the launch date until today, when it made the announcement on Twitter and Facebook.

"Here's a great reason to Stick Together with us: the T-Mobile G2x. This dual core beast of a phone will be available online April 15 and in stores April 20 for $199.99 (After $50 mail in rebate and 2-year agreement)," the carrier announced.

The specifications list of the new device includes the aforementioned dual core processor clocked in at 1GHz, complemented by a 4-inch touchscreen display that can boast a WVGA resolution.

Moreover, the smartphone comes with a highly-quality photo snapper on the back, with support for 1080p video recording capabilities, as well as with 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity capabilities, GPS receiver, and the like.

The T-Mobile G2X
runs under Google's Android 2.2 Froyo platform, but should receive an update to the newer Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform soon.

It would provide users with support for various Google Mobile Services, as well as with access to the Android Market, to download and install apps and games.

"To help whet the gaming appetite of users, the G2x comes preloaded with a full version of racing game Need for Speed SHIFT HD and a demo version of first-person sci-fi shooter Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance (NOVA)," the wireless carrier notes on its website.
