T-Mobile G2, the first 4G smartphone available for purchase through the United States wireless carrier, is no longer available for purchase on the company's website. Apparently, the Android-based mobile phone has reached the end of its life about a week ago, as the wireless carrier halted all of its sales, a recent article on TmoNews reads. The smartphone was made available for purchase for T-Mobile customers in October last year, with a large touchscreen display on the front, and a side-sliding QWERTY keyboard hidden beneath it.

This was the very first smartphone at Magenta to come with support for the HSPA+ network that was flipped on around the same time last year.

In the meantime, of course, the wireless carrier launched other 4G-capable smartphones, and the T-Mobile G2 remained a little behind.

The G2 was none other than the HTC Desire Z smartphone that HTC launched in September last year, and which is now available for purchase in various markets around the world.

The mobile phone landed on shelves with Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system on board, with increased functionality courtesy of the said sliding keyboard, and with fast connectivity options on the HSPA+ network T-Mobile operates.

Enthusiasts will certainly miss the smartphone, the same as they did with the very first Android-based handset at the wireless carrier, the T-Mobile G1.

As stated above, the G2 was followed by a series of other new mobile phones that included support for the carrier's 4G airwaves, and some others should be released in the not-too-distant future.

One of these handsets would be the HTC Sensation 4G, which was announced as set to hit shelves at T-Mobile on Wednesday, June 15th.

Another such device would be the myTouch 4G Slide, which was expected to become official last week, but which has not been announced as of yet. However, with G2 phased-out and Sensation 4G almost on shelves, we might see the new 4G device enjoying a formal announcement soon.
