The first mobile phone to have ever showed up on the market running under Google's Android operating system, the T-Mobile G1 (also known as the HTC Dream), has just seen a price cut from the wireless carrier. Those who would like to purchase the mobile phone will enjoy the idea that it costs only $129.99 at the moment, on a contract agreement, of course.

This is not the first time the handset's price tag has been lowered. Those who paid attention to its performance on the market might already know that the handset was originally priced at $179.99, and that T-Mobile lowered its cost to $149.99 a while ago. For comparison, the device is also available for purchase from Amazon, at a much lower price tag, namely $97.77.

The new price cut might suggest that the wireless carrier is getting ready for the launch of another Android-based mobile phone, the Motorola Cliq, which was announced a few days ago and which is expected to land on T-Mobile's airwaves sometime in October. The upcoming launch might have determined the operator to clear its inventories, which means that further price drops could also emerge in the near future.

On the other hand, we've also seen the phone priced even lower with other carriers around the world, such as Rogers Wireless in Canada, which has it at $79.99. Moreover, the Canadian operator also has the HTC Magic available at the same price, much lower than what US mobile phone users would have to pay for it on T-Mobile's airwaves, where it goes by the name of myTouch 3G.

As stated above, there are great chances that T-Mobile will perform further cuts to G1's price, especially singe the handset is already almost one year old and other attractive and better priced Android phones are headed for the market. Cliq is not too far ahead, so, if you want to go for Android and still find the $129.99 price for G1 a high one, you should wait for it.
