Mobile phone carrier T-Mobile has just announced that the recently unveiled BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900

is set to become the first 4G BlackBerry smartphone on their offering.

The mobile phone is the first in a new series of devices from Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion that would arrive on shelves with the company's new BlackBerry 7 OS on board.

The handset was unveiled today at the BlackBerry World conference in Orlando, and should arrive on shelves in summer this year.

T-Mobile wasn't specific on whether the new device would make it to its lineup at the same time, but did say that it would release it later during the ongoing year.

'The just-announced BlackBerry Bold 9900 will be T-Mobile’s first 4G capable BlackBerry Smartphone later this year,” the wireless carrier notes in a recent tweet.

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 is the first smartphone in RIM's Bold series to sport both a touchscreen display and a QWERTY keyboard in a candybar form factor.

The smartphone comes with a 2.8" capacitive touch screen display capable of delivering a VGA (640 x 480 pixel) resolution, and with the aforementioned QWERTY, complemented by an optical trackpad.

The specifications list of the new device also includes a 1.2 GHz application processor, along with 768 MB of RAM, 8 GB of on-board memory, as well as a microSD slot supporting up to 32 GB cards.

RIM packed the new BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone with a 5.0 MP camera on the back, with support for 720p HD video recording, and with NFC technology (Near Field Communication).

Not to mention the Dual-Band Wi-Fi - 802.11 b/g/n at 2.4 GHz and 802.11 a/n at 5 GHz capabilities, complemented by Bluetooth 2.1+EDR support, and Built-in GPS / aGPS.

BlackBerry Bold 9900 features Tri-Band HSPA+, Quad-Band GSM/EDGE connectivity capabilities, Orientation Sensor (Accelerometer), Digital Compass (Magnetometer), Proximity Sensor, and a 1230 mAh removable, rechargeable battery.

As stated above, it runs under the new BlackBerry 7 OS, which sports a series of new features to the ecosystem, including HD Video recording, Augmented Reality, upgraded BlackBerry Browser, voice-activated search, BlackBerry Balance, or the full version of Docs To Go.
