T-Mobile Germany has recently announced the addition of a new device to the company's lineup, namely the MDA Basic, which appears to be nothing more that an HTC Touch Viva with a re-branded name. The best part about the new handset is the fact that it features only a 4.95 Euro price tag on a 2-year contract. A pre-paid pack is not yet available, but it’s expected to become so in the near future.

The MDA Basic newly added to the Deutsch Telekom-owned wireless carrier's offering comes as an entry-level Windows Mobile smartphone, with a nice range of features, which are expected to appeal to most users.

Since it is said to be an HTC Touch Viva, the new MDA Basic includes a 2.8" QVGA touch screen and runs Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. The device comes with a 200MHz TI OMAP 850 processor, which could be seen as a rather old part, yet we should also take into consideration the fact that this is a handset meant for tight budgets.

So as to compensate for the processor, the MDA Basic comes with 128 MB of RAM. The storage space rises up to 256 MB, yet the device also features support for microSD cards offering up to 4GB of removable memory space.

The feature list of the handset also includes Wi-Fi and EDGE support, although there is no 3G available. In addition, the phone also sports Bluetooth connectivity and comes with a 2-megapixel fixed focus camera, as well as a preinstalled document viewer/editor. Moreover, the 2D reincarnation of the well-known TouchFLO UI can also be spotted with the MDA Basic.

According to the news, the handset should make it to T-Mobile's stores at the beginning of next month.
