Do you remember that Samsung had hoped at some point to equip some of its devices with its own Linux-based operating system called Tizen? By all accounts, the OS was pretty much thought of as “almost dead” because devices sporting it are extremely hard to come across.

Not if you are in Japan and are a developer, however. Now Systena is offering a 10.1-inch tablet as part of the developer kit bundled with Tizen 2.1, thus aiming to get devs inspired enough to start designing apps for the operating system.

The slate features a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels and draws power from a 1.4GHz ARM Cortex-A9 quad-core processor coupled with 2GB of RAM. There’s 32GB of internal storage onboard. Systena also offers functionalities such as 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, and microSD.

To get things moving more quickly, those acquiring the tablet will also have access to source codes and documentation info to help them in their app-designing endeavors. The tablet is available in white and red coloring options.

SamMobile claims that Samsung is ready to resuscitate Tizen, with an official launch planned for October 26, at a developer conference. The OS will probably end up on smartphones at first.
