François Dupoux announces that a new release of his popular SystemRescueCd Linux-based operating system for rescue and recovery tasks has been made available, raising the version number to 4.2.0.

SystemRescueCd is a very famous Linux distribution that has been developed with a single purpose in mind, to be a system rescue disk that is able to run from bootable CD-ROM or USB stick. As the name implies, this OS is only useful after your computer has already crashed and you really need the data.

A number of important fixes and updates have been implemented. For example, the Linux kernel has been updated to version 3.10.35 LTS (rescue32 + rescue64), the alternative kernel has been upgraded to version 3.13.10 (altker32 + altker64), the XOrg graphical environment and drivers have been upgraded to xorg-server-1.15.0, LVM (Logical Volume Manager) has been updated to version 2.02.103 in the initramfs, and ClamAV has been dropped to save 74MB in the ISO image.

This doesn't mean that users won’t be able to use ClamAV. They will just have to download it and install it the old-fashioned way.
