On May 10, François Dupoux announced a new release of his popular SystemRescueCd Linux-based operating system for rescue and recovery tasks.

SystemRescueCd 3.6.0 comes with important changes and improvements, but the most prominent one is the switch to a new version of the LTS Linux kernel. This is quite a jump, at least in the numbering of the distribution.

Highlights of SystemRescueCd 3.6.0:

• The standard kernel is now Long Term Supported linux-3.4.44 (for both rescuecd and rescue64); • Alternative kernels have been updated to latest stable version, 3.9.1 (for both altker32 and altker64); • Gparted (an excellent partitioning utility) has been updated to version 0.16.1 (this is a very important bug release);
