Yesterday, November 1st, François Dupoux announced yet another maintenance release of his popular SystemRescueCd Linux-based operating system for rescue and recovery tasks.

Besides various system fixes, the new SystemRescueCd 1.6.3 Linux Live CD operating system for rescue tasks, includes the latest stable version of the Linux kernel, an updated version of the XOrg Server, TrueCrypt, and Gparted applications.

Moreover, applications such as GParted, TrueCrypt and Perl were updated and patched. Without further ado, let's have a look at the main changes brought by SystemRescueCd 1.6.3:

· Updated the alternative Linux kernel packages to version 2.6.32.25 (with altker32 and altker64); · Updated TrueCrypt to version 7.0a; · Updated XOrg Server to version 1.9.1; · Updated GParted to version 0.7.0 (this version includes initial support for the Btrfs filesystem, and bug fixes); · Updated Perl package to version 5.12.2; · Added Scrub 2.2, an application to write patterns on file/disk.

As you can see, this release of the SystemRescueCd updates only the alternative Linux kernel packages. A standard 2.6.35.6 Linux kernel is still available. SystemRescueCd 1.6.3 includes over 400 packages!
