SystemRescueCd 1.6.0 Has Been Released

SystemRescueCd 1.6.0 has been released bringing new Linux kernels as well as some updated packages. X.Org has been updated as well as the Linux NTFS driver.

SystemRescueCd's main packages, GParted and partimage have also been updated.

Highlights of SystemRescueCd 1.6.0:

· Standard Linux kernels 2.6.35.4 - 32-bit and 64-bit versions;
· Alternative Linux kernels 2.6.32.21 - 32-bit and 64-bit versions;
· Xorg-server 1.8.2;
· NTFS3G 2010.8.8 - read-write driver for NTFS file systems;
· Keymaps added in isolinux - you can select the keyboard layout at boot;
· Kernel-Mode-Settings graphics drivers - for Intel and AMD cards;
· GParted 0.6.2;
· partimage 0.6.9.

SystemRescueCd 1.6.0 comes with the latest Linux kernel as standard but also offers a more stable alternative if, for whatever reason, Linux kernel 2.6.35 doesn't work for you.

The latest release is mostly about the updated packages. Both kernel versions have been updated as well as the X.Org server.

The NTFS3G driver has been updated as well, very important if you plan on rescuing a Windows machine.

If you want to take advantage of what the latest Linux graphics drivers have to offer, the KMS mode should come in handy.
