Integrated hardware, software and service packages are now available from IBM.

IBM has just made public System z Solution Edition Series, offering packages that come to help customers deploy new enterprise workloads. This series of tools is accompanied by additional new programs designed to ease the financial burden of migrating from Sun and HP servers to IBM's System z, which is based on a Linux platform.

As a response to market demand, IBM is attempting to make System z more attractive to customers especially by offering a superior quality at a lower price. The "z Rewards" program in combination with the Solution Edition Series delivers financial incentives for migrating customers, as well as products with competitive prices, IBM said.

System z Solution Edition Series is designed as a complete solution sporting IBM System z hardware, middleware products and maintenance programs, bundled together into a platform for new workloads.

In order to satisfy as many customer requirements as possible, the company adapted the solution to certain business scenarios. For example, System z Solution Edition for Data Warehousing is designed to offer deployment capabilities for new business intelligence applications on servers with an improved response time.

At the same time, developers can use the new System z Solution Edition for Application Development for a mainframe deployment model similar to that of distributed platforms. System z Solutions Edition for GDPS (Geographically Dispersed Parallel Sysplex) also features disaster recovery configurations. Data security is another problem that IBM is trying to solve through its System z Solution Edition for Enterprise Security, helping customers deal with inherent risks.

System z Solution Edition for ACI has emerged from the collaboration of ACI Worldwide, an electronic payment application provider that has adapted its apps to the System z with IBM. In addition, Service Oriented Architecture applications and services are supported on System z Solution Edition for WebSphere, allowing customers to develop and run SOA solutions on the platform.

"Now more than ever, companies and institutions are looking for ways to maximize the return on their IT investments." Karl Freund, vice president of IBM System z strategy and marketing, stated. "The programs announced today offer clients the strengths of System z at prices they are going to love, helping them deploy and consolidate workloads across enterprises and streamline IT infrastructures into a high-performance, energy-efficient environment." he concluded.
