Microsoft made available for download version 2.0 of a tool designed to link System Center Service Manager with Exchange, provided that IT professionals leverage the most recent versions of the two solutions mentioned. Some Softpedia readers are bound to remember that in January 2011, I told them about the availability of System Center Service Manager – Exchange Connector 1.0.

As was the case with the initial release of the tool, IT pros need to be running Service Manager 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Exchange 2007 SP3 or Exchange 2010 SP1 in order to take advantage of System Center Service Manager – Exchange Connector 2.0.

Although System Center Service Manager – Exchange Connector 2.0 is already live on the Microsoft Download Center since the end of July 2011, Microsoft has yet to announce any specific details related to this release.

The official description accompanying the download is still the same as for System Center Service Manager – Exchange Connector 1.0, with just a few exceptions where version 2.0 is mentioned.

Still, this is bound to be nothing more than a temporary situation, and I’m sure that the Redmond company will provide information related to version 2.0 soon.

As before, the connector enables IT pros running Service Manager and Exchange, to link the two and get new incoming emails processing capabilities.

Essentially, messages related to specific incidents can be dealt with right in the Service Manager console, with admins also having the option of changing requests and sending out notifications.

Incidents can not only be created, but also updated and closed from email using System Center Service Manager – Exchange Connector 2.0, the software giant explains. Similarly, requests can be approved, rejected or changed from email.

And IT professionals also have the option to send out notifications to users right from the System Center Service Manager console.
