Early adopters can now download and start testing the near-final release of System Center Operations Manager 2012.

Microsoft just launched the first Release Candidate development milestone of the next-generation management and monitoring solution which is set up out of the box to span across datacenters, private and public Clouds.

System Center Operations Manager 2012 is designed to streamline the management of applications, regardless of whether they reside on-premises or in the Cloud, and services in the context of IT as a Service.

According to David Mills, System Center Product Management, the solution is capable of offering IT professionals deep application insights, over physical, virtual and Cloud environments, and can even cover network devices.

“Operations Manager not only provides a view of your business applications, but a comprehensive view of the environment in which those applications run, whether it’s based on physical, virtual, or cloud resources,” he stressed.

“Even if you run a variety of operating systems—Windows, Linux, and UNIX servers and their workloads—you get a single console to monitor this heterogeneous environment.”

System Center Operations Manager 2012 RC is available via the Microsoft Download Center, with no restrictions as to who can access it.

This is a great chance for customers using this solution to get a taste of what System Center Operations Manager 2012 RTM will bring to the table.

“Along with server, client, service, and application monitoring, Operations Manager now includes network monitoring. Instead of simply monitoring each server, it is now possible to look at the underlying network topology that connects the servers,” Mills added.

“You get a single end-to-end view to help you understand how your server and network infrastructure is working as a whole—from node to network to servers to applications and services.”
