The Syrian Electronic Army took credit for the hack

Hackers part of the Syrian Electronic Army managed to gain control over the official English Facebook profile of Al Arabiya, one of the Arab world’s leading news channels.

According to Al Arabyia, the company managed to regain control over the account, but not before the hackers posted fake news regarding a dispute between the Free Syria Army and the security forces of the Syrian government.

The messages posted by the hackers included accusations towards Al Arabiya TV, which is blamed for the destruction of Egypt and Libya. The company is also criticized for promoting NATO operations.

This is not the first time Al Arabiya is targeted by hacktivists. In February, the TV station’s broadcast was jammed, forcing the company to change its transmission frequencies.
