The Syrian Electronic Army has breached the official blog of Channel 4, the popular British public-service television broadcaster.

The hackers have published a screenshot to demonstrate that they’ve gained administrator access to Channel 4’s WordPress blog dashboard. In addition, they’ve defaced the Channel 4 blog homepage.

In response to the attack, Channel 4 has shut down its blog.

“#SEA hacks Channel 4 blog, but they hired an admin to stay up all night to try and stop us,” the Syrian Electronic Army explained on Twitter.

E Hacking News reports that the hackers have most likely leveraged the fact that Channel 4 has been using an outdated WordPress installation.

At the time of writing, the Channel 4 blog is still down.

Over the past period, the Syrian Electronic Army has hacked the personal email accounts of some White House employees, a Thomson Reuters Twitter account, and the popular cross-platform instant messaging service Viber.

In addition, they’ve declared war on Twitter because the social media network keeps suspending their accounts.
