The Syrian Electronic Army has reportedly hacked the personal email accounts of three White House employees.

The breached accounts belong to people pertaining to the team responsible with the Obama administration’s social media outreach, NextGov reports.

The accounts have been sending other White House employees bogus emails with links that can extract personal email logins and Twitter credentials, targeting more than a dozen current and former staffers.

The links were disguised to look like legitimate BBC or CNN articles. They directed users to a Gmail or Twitter login screen mirroring the original pages where they were supposed to log in in order to read the articles.

The Syrian Electronic Army’s Social Engineering attack managed to compromise Twitter accounts passwords, but they did not manage to bring down the White House website, EHackingNews reports.
