The Syrian Electronic Army has breached the systems of Tango (tango.me), a leading mobile messaging service. They claim to have stolen the company’s customer databases.

“Sorry @TangoMe, We needed your database too, thank you for it!” the pro-Assad hackers wrote on Twitter.

In a blog post, the hackers claim they’ve stolen the phone numbers, email addresses, and other contact details of millions of users. Additionally, they've allegedly downloaded 1.5 TB of daily backups.

“Much of the information in the databases that were downloaded will be delivered to the Syrian government,” they said.

The Syrian Electronic Army has told E Hacking News that they’ve breached the website by exploiting a vulnerability in the outdated WordPress installation used by Tango.

Following the breach, the company has shut down all its four servers, the hackers say. Currently, tango.me redirects visitors to the company’s Facebook page.

So far, no official statements have been released.

Earlier this week, the Syrian Electronic Army breached the systems of Truecaller. The company admitted to being breached, but downplayed the extent of the incident.
