The Syrian Electronic Army has posted a couple of screenshots which suggest that the group has managed to hijack Microsoft’s official Xbox Twitter (@Xbox) and Instagram accounts.

The images made available by the Syrian hacktivist group show that they had access to the “Edit your profile” section of the Xbox Instagram account.

One of our readers says the group has also hijacked the Xbox Support (@XboxSupport) Twitter account from which they've posted some tweets. There's a screenshot of the messages, but I can't confirm that it's genuine.

I’ve reached out to Microsoft representatives to see if they can comment on the hackers’ claims. This post will be updated after they respond. I’ve also reached out to the members of the Syrian Electronic Army to see if they can provide additional details.

It’s worth noting that the Syrian Electronic Army has managed to hack Skype’s blog, Twitter and Facebook accounts earlier this year. However, Microsoft said that no user information had been compromised.

Update. The article has been updated to clarify that one of the screenshots is of the Xbox Instagram account. I apologize for the confusion.

Update 2. Cyber War News confirms that the Xbox Support account has been hacked.

Update 3. The Syrian Electronic Army has also hacked Microsoft's blog and the Microsoft News Twitter account. Check out our follow-up story for additional details.
