The hackers are looking for a company willing to host their website

The Syrian Computer Society has decided to stop hosting the official website of the notorious pro-Assad hacktivist collective the Syrian Electronic Army.

“We at the Syrian Electronic Army management regret to inform all members and staff that the Syrian Electronic Army's website is no longer functional. This happened due to reasons beyond our control and due to the weak will of some administrators of the Syrian Computer Society (SCS),” Syrian Electronic Army representatives stated.

“We are extremely surprised at the current SCS' decision to stop hosting our official website and furthermore, to refuse to host it ever again.”

The reasons provided by the Syrian Computer Society – sanctions imposed on them for hosting the website – have been named as “unconvincing” by the hacker group.

“The SCS had been used by the western and Arab media as evidence of a link between the SEA and the Syrian government. Its refusal to host the SEA's website proves that these alleged links, and any assertion built on them, have no basis,” the SEA’s statement continues.

“According to the email, the achievements of the SEA are a fight to uphold the name of the Syrian nation and deliver the righteous voice of the people, yet this somehow become a heavy national burden and a burden to the SCS administration in particular.”

The Syrian Electronic Army’s website (sea.sy) will remain offline while they try to find another company willing to host it.

In the meantime, the hackers continue to do what they’re best at: hack the systems of news organizations that publish anti-Assad materials. Their latest target is the Saudi e-newspaper Sabq.org.

SEA also appears to be supporting the recent anti-government protests in Turkey.
