Git, a free and open source distributed version control system designed to handle everything from small to very large projects with speed and efficiency, is now at version 1.8.0.2.

As releases go, Git 1.8.0.2 is quite a large one, with tons of changes and updates.

Highlights of Git 1.8.0.2:

• Various codepaths had a workaround for a common misconfiguration to spell "UTF-8" as "utf8", but it was not used uniformly. This has been fixed;
• When "--stat-count" hides a diffstat for binary contents, the total number of added and removed lines at the bottom is now computed correctly;
• "diff --shortstat" miscounted the total number of affected files when there were unmerged paths;
• Syntax highlighting in "gitweb" was not quite working.

For a complete list of changes, check the official changelog.
