Although one would think that the market of widescreen LCD HDTV sets is quite crowded as it is, it would seem that there's always room for more. And one of the latest companies to go above 60 inches with their TV sets is Syntax-Brillian, who has just announced at Infocomm 2007 the Olevia 665i, a 65-inch 1080p-capable LCD that incorporates the latest and most advanced video processor developed by the company, namely the Silicon Optix Realta HQV, a SOC that - according to the company - enables a new benchmark standard of video excellence called Hollywood Quality Video, or HQVTM.

Realta's architecture includes a fully software-programmable video array processor capable of performing over 1 trillion operations per second, an Image Fidelity Enhancement Engine and end-to-end true 10-bit image processing. These technologies combine together to enable the simultaneous processing of dual high-definition image streams, and the device also supports advanced picture-in-picture (PIP) and split-screen (side-by-side) windowing modes, not to mention the OSD engine driven by a 250 MHz RISC CPU enabling 2D graphics and real-time animation.

Other than this highly advanced video processor, the Olevia 665i comes packed with most of the features one might expect to find in an advanced HDTV set. Thus, it includes what could already be called standard connectivity options, namely 2 HDMI, 2 Component, Composite and VGA inputs and also provides RS232 control for use in networked applications or home automation installations. Moreover, the device features the Olevia Big Picture Technology, whose purpose is to reduce overscan and to enable consumers to enjoy more of the image's viewing angle.

Although it's the company's first foray above 50 inches, Syntax-Brillian is quite confident about the future success of the Olevia. As Sam Miller, CPO, North American LCD TV Division, Syntax-Brillian says, "With its state-of-the-art Silicon Optix Realta HQV video processor, elegant design and full range of features, this commanding 1080p LCD HDTV is ideal for both home theater and commercial applications". However, it remains to be seen whether the Olevia 665i will be as successful as the company expects it to be, especially since it has a MSRP of around $9,999.
