Small and medium sized businesses, as well as workgroups, get serviced

Synology has once again stepped forward to reveal not one but two NAS devices, which have their very own product pages and should already be up for order.

The new NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices, servers in fact (since that is the role they play) that Synology made are called DS212 and DS212+.

The former is intended for home and business workgroups, while the latter will best serve small and medium-sized businesses.

The DS212 is based on a 1.6 GHz central processing unit and has 256 MB of built-in DDR3 RAM (random access memory), plus two USB 3.0 ports, hot-swappable hard drives (2 bays) and Gigabit Ethernet.

The item also integrated one USB 2.0 port, an SD card slot and a fan with a diameter of 92 inches.

Meanwhile, the DS212+ has a 2 GHz processor and 512 MB of DDR3 memory, as well the assets of its sibling.

Furthermore, the DS212+ has an advantage in how it boasts an eSATA port on top of everything else.

As for performance, the hot-swappable drives can read data at up to 109 MB/s and write it at 54 MB/s, when in a RAID 1 configuration.

The SATA drives that can be used on either NAS can have the 3.5-inch form factor (standard, for the largest capacity) or the 2.5-inch size (basically means that solid state drives can be utilized instead, for even greater data transfer speeds).

The product page of the DS212 is available here, while the DS212+ is detailed here.

Of course, for all their assets, these two might not exactly meet the needs of every business out there.

The capacity limit imposed by the existence of only two drive bays, even with 3TB models, is on its own enough to prompt some prospective buyers to look for something bigger, like Synology's own DiskStation DS411, to give one example.
